The Ritenour School District received an outstanding report for its financial practices and management, according to an audit report presented to the Board of Education on Nov. 11, 2010.

Parents must be present and should bring their child's immunization records if available. Missouri laws require all children to have up-to-date immunizations prior to the first day of school.

Ritenour School District residents 60 years of age or older may attend Ritenour home athletic events and school activities, including musicals and drama presentations, free of charge by obtaining a Gold Card Pass. The card is a lifetime pass and need not be renewed. Admittance to county, regional and state athletic tournaments is not included with the pass.

The first day of school is just around the corner and enrollment for students new to the Ritenour School District is easier than ever before! This year, families new to the district can register their child in one location – no more visiting several schools and filling out the paperwork over and over again. Parents can also save time by beginning the enrollment process online, then bringing the required papers and legal documents to the Ritenour Administrative Center to complete the registration process.

Hundreds of family and friends were on hand to congratulate Ritenour High School (RHS) graduates as they received their diplomas and opened the book to the next chapter of their lives on Saturday, May 22, 2010. For the first time in many years, the graduation ceremony took place inside Costilow Fieldhouse due to poor conditions on the football field. The evening capped a year filled with numerous achievements.

The 2010 graduation ceremony at Ritenour High School on Saturday, May 22 has been moved indoors to Costilow Fieldhouse due to poor conditions on the football field. Because of heavy rains the past two weeks, Moore Field is not in condition to withstand the stage, chairs and most importantly the large number of graduates and their families. Large screens and other video enhancements will be set up for the ceremony in the North Gymnasium and in front of the school near the main staircase. More details are available below.

Ritenour High School’s annual Baseball Card Show takes place from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Dealer tables of sports and non-sports cards and memorabilia will be set up inside Costilow Fieldhouse at Ritenour High School, 9100 St. Charles Rock Road. St. Louis Cardinals players are scheduled to sign autographs. Players and autograph times will be announced at a later date.

Paintings, drawings, watercolors, sculptures, ceramics and more will be on display at the annual Ritenour School District Art Show from May 12 - 16, 2010, at Wild Acres Gymnasium, located at 2500 Ashby Road in Overland, Mo. Ritenour students, staff and the entire community are invited to view the free art exhibit.

04-30-2010June 2 Last Day of School for Ritenour Students

Because the Ritenour School district used only two of its six allocated snow days during the 2009-2010 school year, the final day of school for students is Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Dismissal for the elementary and middle schools will be as regularly scheduled. Final examinations at Ritenour High School are scheduled on the mornings of June 1-2 with half-day attendance.

The Ritenour Early Childhood Center (ECC) has many terrific events and activities scheduled for students and staff throughout the week.

Buder Elementary in the Ritenour School District is giving individuals an opportunity to sell gently used items during its second annual bazaar on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Sponsored by the Buder PTO, the event takes place from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the school, located at 10350 Baltimore Ave. in St. Ann. Individuals can purchase a vendor space for $10.

Students from Ritenour High School (RHS) will host a special Book Fair from Scholastic on March 30-April 8, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to help raise funds for classroom libraries and library supplies. From Oct. 27-30, Ritenour elementary and middle schools will host parent-teacher conferences. Ritenour High School has conferences on the evenings of Nov. 4-5. Conferences are successful when parents and teachers talk openly about the child’s achievement and discuss plans to make sure the child continues to progress.

Oct. 19-23, 2009, is National School Bus Safety Week. More than 3,000 Ritenour students ride the bus to and from school every day. The cooperation of children, parents, bus drivers and motorists is essential to keep our students safe as they are being transported to school, to after-school activities and back to their homes. National School Bus Safety Week is always held the third week in October.

Ritenour High School teacher Patty Ulrich was one of only 25 teachers from across the nation selected for a life-changing trip to Costa Rica this spring. Ulrich, a language arts and drama instructor in her first year at RHS, spent 12 days in the Central American country studying environmental sustainability through the Toyota International Teacher Program.

In what has become an annual tradition at the school, Iveland Elementary School held its annual Red Carpet Ceremony on the final day of the school year to recognize students for displaying peaceful behavior. Two at a time, students walked the red carpet in Iveland’s gymnasium. When they reached the front, they received a special award for avoiding office referrals and for being fight free for the entire school year.

Susan Burton, a sophomore at Ritenour High School, has been chosen to attend the 2009 Missouri Scholars Academy (MSA). Burton is one of only 330 top-flight students from public and private high schools throughout the state invited to the Academy - which takes place from June 7-27, 2009, at the University of Missouri - Columbia.

This past school year, Day has served as assistant principal at Marion Elementary. He joined the district from the North Wood R-IV School District in Salem, Mo., where he taught sixth through eighth grade.

Ritenour High School’s annual Baseball Card Show takes place from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009 inside Costilow Fieldhouse at Ritenour High School, 9100 St. Charles Rock Road. St. Louis Cardinals players are scheduled to sign autographs. Players and autograph times will be announced at a later date.

The Ritenour School District will receive an 81 percent discount on telecommunications, Internet and data services during the 2000-2010 school year thanks to awards from the E-Rate program. E-Rate funds will save Ritenour $188,723.

Forty young women from Kratz, Marion and Wyland Elementary schools joined together for a powerful and educational experience. The three schools joined forces to host the Empowering Young Women’s Conference at Wyland Elementary.

05-20-2009June 2 Last Day of School for Ritenour Students

Because the Ritenour School district used only three of its six allocated snow days during the 2008-2009 school year, the final day of school for students is Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Dismissal for the elementary and middle schools will be as regularly scheduled. Final examinations at Ritenour High School are scheduled on the mornings of June 1-2 with half-day attendance.

Ritenour graduate Steve Cash backstopped the United States National Sled Hockey team to its first ever World Championship over the weekend, shutting out Norway 1-0 on Saturday in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Cash, Team USA’s starting goaltender, turned away all 11 shots he faced and was named player of the game.

The Ritenour High School cheerleading program received a $500 donation from the parent of a recent RHS graduate. Sherri Dunsing – mother of 2008 graduate Alyssa Dunsing – is an employee of Citigroup and a volunteer for the RHS cheerleading squad. Through its Volunteer Incentive Program, Citigroup employees who volunteer more than 50 hours in a calendar year for an eligible organization – like the RHS cheerleading program – may apply for a $500 grant from the Citi Foundation for that organization.

This week is an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy school meals to more than 5,000 Ritenour children each school day.

Chantell Mason, a first grade teacher at Iveland Elementary, had the amazing opportunity to meet United States Vice President Joe Biden last week. Biden led a town hall style meeting the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) to discuss college affordability with recent graduates, new teachers, and current students. Mason – a recent UMSL graduate and a first-year teacher in Ritenour – was invited because of her role as a student leader and through her activity with the National Education Association at the state and national level.

The Ritenour School District has selected Tonya Ryan of Kratz Elementary as the district Diamond Circle Teacher of the Year and Administrative Center Application Support Specialist Sharon Ellis as the Diamond Circle Employee of the Year. The district also named eight other teachers as Diamond Circle recipients for their respective schools. Diamond Circle Awards are given to teachers and staff that best exemplify the district’s commitment to quality education and service. Awardees are chosen each year by colleagues at their buildings.

The Ritenour community is invited to review new Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Family Consumer Science (FACS) curriculum for students in the district. During the past year, curriculum for the CTE and FACS has been reviewed and revised by district staff. Textbooks and resource materials have also been reviewed and proposed for adoption.

Ritenour High School (RHS) earth sciences students went poolside for some hands-on lessons about oceanography. Students donned scuba gear with a little help from representatives of The Great American Diving Company. RHS Science teacher Rick Rodgers used the lesson and equipment to talk about underwater pressure, exploration and other oceanography concepts.

Volunteer tutors are needed to help adult learners through Ritenour's Adult Education and Literacy program. Volunteers work one-on-one with adults to help them improve their reading skills. Training is provided and volunteers are assigned to work with the same adult on a regular basis.

Buder Elementary in the Ritenour School District is giving individuals an opportunity to sell gently used items during its second annual bazaar on Saturday, April 25, 2009. Sponsored by the Buder Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), the event takes place from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the school, located at 10350 Baltimore Ave. in St. Ann. Individuals can purchase a vendor space for $20.

Ritenour School District elementary schools are now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2009-2010 school year. Children must be 5 years of age on or before July 31, 2009, to enter kindergarten in August. The district offers only full-day kindergarten for all incoming students.

Janine Milam's fifth grade class at Marion Elementary School recently held their annual tribute to significant African-Americans in history. Students were divided into groups to research the following African-Americans: Olympian Jackie Joyner Kersee, inventor Jan Matzeliger, businesswoman Madame C.J. Walker, musician Sammy Davis Jr., and educator Booker T. Washington.

Students at Kratz Elementary School received some very important life lessons from the St. Louis Cardinals on Feb. 24. Several members of the major league baseball club - including Fredbird and former major leaguer Joe Cunningham - visited Kratz to educate and entertain students through the "Doin' it Right" program. The assembly focused on three main points - don't do drugs, stay in school, and participate in sports and stay fit.

Ritenour High School orchestra students performed in the E. Des Lee High School Music festival on Feb. 10 at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. Ritenour students, selected by audition, rehearsed seven hours with students from nine area schools to prepare for the evening performance - led by Dr. James Richards, director of orchestral activities at the University of Missouri St. Louis.

Iveland Elementary music teacher Rhonda Saltzman posed this tongue-twisting question to her fourth grade students as part of a lesson on Australia and its traditional musical instruments. Using the knowledge they gained from the unit, students put their hard work and artistic talent to good use. They created a colorful and insightful bulletin board - telling you everything you would ever like to know about the traditional Australian musical instrument.

Ritenour High School junior guard Corey Allen was recently named Athlete of the Week by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KTVI-TV (Channel 2). A 6-foot guard, Allen is one of the St. Louis area leaders in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game, and in steals (2.9 per contest.)

Ritenour School District will sell $20 million of general obligation bonds on Feb. 5, 2009. The bonds, also known as municipal bonds, are the first to be sold as part of the $50 million Proposition K bond issue voters approved in Nov. 2008. Closing for the first series of bonds is Feb. 17.

Ritenour High School girls' soccer player Jordan Price signed a letter of intent to play for Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. next fall. Price, a senior at RHS, was joined at the signing by her parents - Charles and Penny Price - as well as Lindenwood women's soccer coach Laurie Kaminski, RHS girls' soccer coach Drew Lohnes and RHS Athletic Director Jason Green.

Twenty Ritenour High School (RHS) students are taking the trip of a lifetime next week. From Jan. 19-21, they will travel to Washington D.C. to attend the Presidential Inauguration 2009. Students and their adult chaperones will witness history as President-elect Barack Obama is sworn into office in as President of the United States.

A Cub Scout who realized his cousin was drowning and pulled him to safety will receive a Heroism Award during a National Court of Honor Ceremony on Wednesday, Jan 14. Marvin Elementary fifth grader Zach Heatley, a member of Cub Scout Pack 531, chartered to the Kratz Elementary PTO in the Ritenour School District, will be recognized at the conclusion of the Greater St. Louis Area Council's Friends of Scouting Kickoff Dinner.

Ritenour High School senior Jacob Myers was selected to the 2008 Missouri Football Coaches Association Academic All-State team. Meyers is the only football player from the Suburban North Conference to receive the honor.

On Jan. 7, the Ritenour Library Committee conducted site visits to several elementary school libraries throughout the St. Louis area. The committee visited six public and private school libraries in Hazelwood, St. Charles and St. Louis. The group was looking at some of the best facilities in the St. Louis area. 12-18-2008Ritenour Adult Learning Center Offering New Classes Beginning Jan. 5

Beginning Jan. 5, 2009, the Ritenour Adult Learning Center will be offering new managed enrollment GED classes each morning. Managed enrollment classes offer students the ability to progress faster when committing to attend class for at least 12 hours per week for one month. Classes take place from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. New students can only enter the program on orientation dates - Jan. 5, Feb. 2, March 2 and April 6, 2009.

Fifth graders at Iveland Elementary are officially published authors. Students in Ms. Mitzy Mergenthaler's class authored and illustrated a book titled "It All Comes Back to Us, Ways to Care for Our Earth." The book was published through Studentreasures, a company that takes students' writing and illustrations and publishes full-color, hardbound books.

Students throughout the Ritenour School District collected canned foods and other nonperishable items for the annual Joint Charities Christmas Basket Program throughout the month of November. All of the food items will be distributed to families in need in the district.

He visited three schools, teaching students about life in his country and his school, which serves more than 300 physically disabled and visually impaired children.

The Ritenour School District is seeking older-adult volunteers to help make sure no child lacks the ability to read. Ritenour, in partnership with the national award-winning OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, is seeking volunteers 50 and older to spend time with children who need a little extra help learning to read. Volunteers are paired with Ritenour's elementary students and spend just one hour a week during the school day as a tutor, mentor and friend. Together they read, talk, write stories and play games.

The Ritenour School District has selected Melissa Hamilton as the district Diamond Circle Teacher of the Year and Sue Quinn as the Diamond Circle Employee of the Year. Ritenour High School (RHS) has qualified for designation as an "A+ School" by the state of Missouri. The State Board of Education approved the schools' A+ status last week during its regular meeting in Jefferson City, Mo. As a result, students in the A+ program at RHS may receive state-paid tuition assistance to attend a Missouri community college or technical school. Many Missouri four-year institutions are offering scholarships for the students who qualify for A+ funds.

During its April business meeting, the Ritenour Board of Education modified the 2007-2008 academic calendar as well as approved the calendars for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years. The Board also approved the changes to the 2008-2009 calendar to provide six days for inclement weather as required by state law.

The Ritenour School District will receive an 81 percent discount on telecommunications, Internet and data services during the 2007-2008 school year thanks to awards from the E-Rate program. E-Rate funds will save Ritenour $183,120 this school year.

To commemorate Earth Day, sixth grade students at Hoech Middle School are taking part in nationwide initiative to decorate paper grocery bags with environmentally friendly messages. For the past four years, students have received paper bags from the Shop ‘n Save in St. John, Mo., decorated them with environmentally friendly drawings and messages and returned them for shoppers to take home as part of the Earth Day Groceries Project.

Ritenour High School presents the Broadway musical "Anything Goes!" from April 16-19, 2008. All shows begin at 7 p.m. in the North Gymnasium at Ritenour High School, 9100 St. Charles Rock Road. The public is invited to attend this romantic comedy set in the 1930s involving Wall Street tycoons, gangsters, English gentlemen and nightclub singers. The quilts - depicting secret codes for slaves escaping to freedom - were shown to the students by Mrs. Dezzie Houston, a guest teacher.

Using simple recycled materials, pipe insulation and a marble, fifth graders at Iveland Elementary created some amazing roller coasters as part of their studies on physics. The miniature amusement rides featured all of the twists and turns of a regular coaster - but easily fit onto a stage in the gymnasium at the school.

Below freezing temperatures and an icy lake were no match for some determined students, administrators and school resource officers from Ritenour High School. Wearing their orange and black, a select few took the plunge into Creve Coeur Lake on Saturday, Feb. 16. But, they were "freezin' for a reason" - as the school raised more than $1,700 for Special Olympics during the 2008 Polar Bear Plunge.

For the sixth consecutive year, Ritenour School District earned the prestigious Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and management of its 2007-2008 annual budget. While every school district has an annual budget to manage expenditures and revenue, the Meritorious Budget Award is only given to school districts that meet or exceed the rigorous award program criteria. Less than one percent of the nation's school district receive the award presented by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.

Students at Ritenour High School (RHS) raised more than $600 for relief efforts in Bangladesh. The funds were donated to the Red Cross and will be used to purchase medical supplies for those affected by Tropical Cyclone Sidr last November. Sidr was the deadliest storm to hit Bangladesh in many years, destroying tens of thousands of homes and killing thousands.

Volunteer tutors are needed to help adult learners through Ritenour's Adult Education and Literacy program. Volunteers work one-on-one with adults to help them improve their reading skills. Training is provided and volunteers are assigned to work with the same adult on a regular basis.

Students at the Ritenour Early Childhood Center (ECC) welcomed grandparents for a special breakfast on Nov. 15. Muffins, fruit, juice and many really big smiles were on the menu. The students - ages three to five years old - were thrilled to have their grandparents in attendance.

Braam Mouton, from Ethembeni - a school that serves 300 physically disabled and visually impaired children - visited Ritenour on Nov. 8 to speak to students and staff at four elementary schools. Mouton visited Kratz, Marion, Iveland and Marvin Elementary and spoke to fourth and fifth grade students during his daylong visit to the Gateway City.

In this case the booty wasn't gold or even candy - students searched the building for various clues that had to do with letters and kindergarten sight words.

Twelve members of the Grubbs family were inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame - Missouri Chapter on Oct. 6, 2007. Patriarchs of the incredible wrestling heritage at Ritenour High School, the family was involved with the wrestling program for nearly 60 years. The new Media Center has been creating quite a buzz at Ritenour High School (RHS). Students and staff returned to school this year to find a newly renovated library and media center. The facility features new computers for writing and research, a media classroom with video conferencing capabilities, more bookshelves and renovated space to accommodate additional students and increased technology. It officially opened for students and staff in September. The renovations were funded by the 2005 bond issue.

Marvin Elementary School celebrated the unveiling and launch of the newest St. Louis County Library Bookmobile on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Ritenour Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Compton, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, and officials from St. Louis County Library and The Boeing Company were on hand for the introduction of the library's tenth bookmobile. Boeing donated $60,000 for the purchase of the mobile library unit and participated in the designing of the bookmobile's exterior.

The Ritenour School District is seeking older-adult volunteers to help make sure no child lacks the ability to read. Volunteers are paired with Ritenour's elementary students and spend just one hour a week during the school day as a tutor, mentor and friend. Together they read, talk, write stories and play games.

Ritenour High School (RHS) athlete Chad Riegel did the right thing on the golf course, and now he is being honored at a national sportsmanship event. Riegel is the first-ever recipient of the "Good Sport" award from the AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards. The "Good Sport" award recognizes one St. Louis area youth athlete, age 8 to 18, who demonstrates the ideals and very meaning of sportsmanship through a specific act or overall approach. He will be honored on Thursday, June 21 during the National Sportsmanship Awards. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis.

Parents are needed to volunteer to serve on the Special School District (SSD) Interdistrict Parent Advisory Council (I-PAC). The SSD I-PAC was formed to fulfill legislative directives for the State of Missouri. It consists of three parents elected from each of the 23 local districts and from the five SSD schools. Terms are for two years and elections are staggered with half of the districts/schools holding elections each year. SSD I-PAC charges include consulting with the SSD Governing Council, Board of Education, and Administration as well as with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on issues involving pupils and parent of pupils receiving services from SSD. Goals include working to advocate for the successful education of children of all ability levels, participate in formulating a vision for the future of special education in St. Louis County; support parents in attaining equitable, appropriate services, information, assistive technology and other resources for children with disabilities; communicating with parents, educators, and the general public concerning what the education needs and rights of children with disabilities are and what resources are available to them in St. Louis County; and collaborate with general and special educators on the effective education of our children.

04-20-2007A Hair-Raising Experience

Administrators at Ritenour High School made a deal with students taking the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test - and on Friday, April 20, they had to pay the price. Four assistant principals, along with the director of activities and director of athletics agreed to shave their heads in a "Mohawk style" if students achieved a 98 percent or higher attendance rate for two days of testing. Sophomores and juniors taking the test responded by earning a 98.17 percent attendance rate the first day and 99.5 percent the second.

Students at Marion Elementary School raised nearly $900 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during its "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser. Students in grades kindergarten though five collected pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters for three weeks in March. Students were in charge of collecting, counting and recording their class amounts. The grand total was $878.29.

04-04-2007Prop R Falls Just Short of Percentage Needed to Win

Proposition R, Ritenour's $32 million bond issue, received a narrow majority of support from district voters during the April 3 election, but unfortunately fell short of the required margin. While the majority of voters, 50.95 percent, voted in favor of Prop R, it wasn't enough to reach the super majority of 57.15 percent needed for the measure to pass.

St. Louis County Department of Revenue announced it would soon send property tax reassessment notices to residents. Preliminary information from the County indicates most Ritenour residents will see an increase in the value of their real estate property. An increase in your property value is good news for you and for the community as this is a strong indicator of housing and neighborhood improvement and growth.

Students at Marion Elementary School received an all-encompassing look at how food is grown, packaged, sold and even digested through an exhibit called Food Power. The traveling exhibit visited the school recently and taught students in grades kindergarten through five about the importance of healthy food choices and regular physical activity.

Students at Ritenour's Early Childhood Center were featured on KSDK-TV (Channel 5 in St. Louis) doing the 5-1 salute at the end of the five, six and 10 p.m. newscasts on Thursday, March 15. KSDK-TV features a different school in the St. Louis area every day at the end of their newscasts.

For the 15th consecutive year, Ritenour Middle School hosted its bookmark design contest. Students submitted more than 100 original designs into this year's competition. Fifteen winners were chosen. The contest was open to all students at the school.

Heroes like Jesse Owens, Nellie Bly, Booker T. Washington, Helen Keller and Albert Einstein were celebrated at Iveland Elementary School's fifth-grade musical. The program, titled "Heroes All," took place in the school's gymnasium on March 8.

You have probably heard this before - "If I register to vote I will get put on a list to be called for jury duty." But the fact is, according to the St. Louis County Municipal Court, if you have a driver's license, you are already on the list for potential jurors. The court draws names from many sources, including the Department of Motor Vehicles. An individual is just as likely to be called for jury duty because of possessing a driver's license than because of registering to vote. Being on both lists does not increase your chances for being called because they "merge" the list into one for the random selection of jurors. You can register to vote at any Ritenour school, any St. Louis County library, at motor vehicle registration offices, or at the St. Louis County Board of Election office located at 12 Sunnen Drive in Brentwood. To register to vote in the April 3, 2007 election, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age and a resident of St. Louis County. The last day to register for the April 3 election is March 7, 2007. Eight Ritenour high school students were selected to participate in the E. Desmond Lee Orchestra Program. The orchestra gives students the opportunity to perform at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis with students from other districts in the St. Louis area. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The Ritenour School District has launched a new Web site - www.RSDPropR.com - to provide details about Proposition R, a $32 million bond issue on the April 3, 2007 ballot. Funds from Prop R would be used to build an Educational Center for the Arts at Ritenour High School and a new Early Childhood Center. The proposal also includes plans for classroom renovations at the high school and land acquisition.

Christopher Whited, a freshman at Ritenour High School, was named to the 2007 Missouri All-State Honorable Mention Band. The All-State Band is the pinnacle of accomplishment for high school band members in the state of Missouri. Whited is a percussionist.

The Ritenour School District is saving taxpayers money through a bond issue refund. The district, which has won numerous national awards for its financial management, will save taxpayers more than $600,000 by restructuring debt. Fifth graders Wyland Elementary took a trip back in time to experience what it was like to live in Colonial America. As part of their studies on the time period, students and teachers created a "Colonial World" to replicate the 1700s in three classrooms at the school.

Third graders at Buder Elementary School will have warm heads this winter thanks to the warm heart of Leola Lee. Lee is a 99-year old who loves to knit. She enjoys knitting so much that she created a stocking hat for every third grader in the school - 96 in all.

Margaret Meisinger, a senior at Ritenour High School, has been named a Commended Student in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship program. She is one of only 34,000 students throughout the nation to be recognized for academic excellence in the program.

Giordano (Distinguished Research Professor at Bowling Green State University), Ted Kulongoski (Governor of Oregon), Dr. Harry J. Jibbs, a nationally known recording artist, paid a visit to RHS and entertained students during an hour-long performance at Costilow Fieldhouse. Volunteer tutors are needed to help adult learners through Ritenour’s Adult Education and Literacy program. Volunteers work one-on-one with adults to help them improve their reading skills. Training is provided and volunteers are assigned to work with the same adult on a regular basis.

Fourth graders at Marvin Elementary found out what happens when you combine seven "Mentos" brand mints with a two liter bottle of Diet Coke. The mints and soda combined caused liquid to shoot six feet into the air. The students, in Ms. Jan Mcclenahan's science class, were studying solids, liquids, gasses and chemical reactions.

The Ritenour School District will celebrate the start of the 2006-2007 school year during its annual Black and Orange Day on Friday, Aug. 18, at Ritenour High School. Ritenour School District elementary schools are now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2007-2008 school year. Both full-day and half-day kindergarten classes are available. Children must be 5 years of age on or before July 31, 2007, to enter kindergarten in August.
